A71 Entertainment Inc. is pleased to announce the Canadian theatrical release of the award-winning comedy-thriller HARPOON, written and directed by Rob Grant and starring Munro Chambers (TURBO KID), Emily Tyra (CODE BLACK), Christopher Gray (THE MIST), and featuring a pitch-perfect voiceover by celebrated comedian Brett Gelman from the Emmy-Award winning series FLEABAG. HARPOON made its world premiere this year at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and most recently screened at Fantasia International Film Festival, Chattanooga Film Festival and Calgary Underground Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award. It will open in cities across Canada with a special sneak preview October 7 (full list of theatres listed below) before beginning its theatrical rollout October 11 in Toronto (Carlton). The Canadian release follows just a week after Epic Films genre label Dread, puts the film on screens in the US.

With his perfect family and perfect upbringing, Richard (Gray) appears to have it all. So, when he thinks that his long-term girlfriend, Sasha (Tyra), and best-friend, Jonah (Chambers), are having an affair, it sends him into a fit of rage that leaves Jonah a bloody mess. Once Jonah and Sasha convince Richard the allegations are false, Richard tries to buy back their trust by taking them out for a day-trip on his family’s yacht. But tensions boil-over once out at sea and to make matters worse, the yacht’s engine fails. Stranded without food and supplies, a nerve-wracking struggle for survival ensues that spares no one’s secrets.

This post-modern adaptation of a story by Edgar Allan Poe in which three shipwrecked sailors draw lots to see who must sacrifice himself as a cannibalistic snack, HARPOON is a wickedly funny and bloody deconstruction of friendship and love.

“HARPOON is the kind of genre film that also finds an audience in the mainstream,” says A71 Chief Operating Officer, Susan Curran. “We are excited to open this film across Canada and urge movie-goers to board and enjoy this ill-fated boat ride that will make you laugh and wince in equal measure.”

“It’s the calm before the storm and couldn’t be happier to have A71 come aboard for HARPOON’s Canadian release… and now that I have all the nautical puns out of the way, I’m well and truly excited to be working together to bring our crazy movie to the masses!” says writer-director Rob Grant.
