A71 ENTERTAINMENT Acquires Martine Blue’s HUNTING PIGNUT, Opening Night Gala at Female Eye Film Festival, for Canadian & World Distribution.
On the cusp of the 15th Anniversary of the Female Eye Film Festival, A71 has swooped in and picked up the award-winning film HUNTING PIGNUT!
HUNTING PIGNUT centre’s on Bernice (Taylor Hickson). The 15-year-old hates her life in the tiny, isolated community of Black Gut, Newfoundland. She feels she will never overcome the trauma that has left her body and psyche deeply scarred. Her dejected spirit takes a strange turn when her dad dies of a heroin overdose and Pignut (Joel Thomas Hynes), a charismatic but tormented gutter punk, shows up for his wake. When Pignut steals her father’s ashes right out of the urn, Bernice embarks on an odyssey to hunt down her father’s remains and to discover her place in his heart and in the world. Look for a cameo appearance by Mary Walsh in this indie feature.
Making its Toronto premiere at as the Opening Night Gala for the Female Eye Film Festival, June 20th, at the Fox Theatre, the film hopes to make a splash and then hit theatres in the Fall, 2017. HUNTING PIGNUT won Best First Feature Arizona International Film Festival, and played Atlantic Film Festival, Whistler film festival.

HUNTING PIGNUT is directed by Martine Blue, stars to Taylor Hickson, and is based on events from the life of writer/director/editor Martine Blue; also starring Joel Thomas Hynes, Amelia Manuel, Jamie Silken Merrigan, Bridget Wareham, and Mary Walsh. The film is produced by Paul Pope (Pope Productions).
